What I’m Watching: Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency: Season 1, Episode 6 “Fix Everything” (B+)

Now this is what I’m talking about. I’m been enjoying this show so far, and this episode demonstrated that it’s all been leading to something awesome. I love the way information is transmitted on the show, with the conversation between Todd and Farah exemplifying just how many tangents this show’s characters go on multiple times per scene. Amanda reacted predictably poorly to the news about Todd’s lie, and seeing flashbacks to Todd being there for Amanda just made his deception sting all the more. It’s great to see that Estevez, realizing that his captain is in on it, put it all together and then showed up at Todd’s house to demand an explanation. Dirk wanting to be in both module A and module B of his detective agency was hilariously explained as illogical by Farah, and then we got what we’ve all been waiting for when we didn’t at all expect it: Bart showing up to kill the guy she’s supposed to just when Dirk screamed his name. Them both saying “Everything is connected” and subsequent things at the same time was amazing, and what the encounter did to Bart was intense. It’s great to see Ken being there for her and talking her to down, explaining that she didn’t feel like killing him, and hopefully she’ll soon be back to her normal self. Todd and Dirk ending up prisoners of the creepy bald guys led to an expected moment of revelation from Gordon that revealed how little he knows, and then we got a truly superb ending that makes me so pumped for the final two episodes of the season. Dirk figuring it out is so exciting, and I can’t wait to see what they do with this time and space machine.
