Jane the Virgin: Season 4, Episode 8 “Chapter Seventy-Two” (B+)
This is the one show that hasn’t been on at all in the time that I’ve fallen so far behind on TV, and it’s great to have this delightful series, which continues to be great four seasons in, back for the rest of the season since it’s just about halfway through its episode count. I like this show offers some good parenting lessons, like Jane and Rafael having to contend with Mateo being excited about how well he did lying to his new friend about where they lived. It all worked out great after plenty of awkwardness during the playdate, and now Rafael has a teeny little apartment that will help get him acclimated to what it’s like not to be living in luxury. Jane was very funny challenging Rafael to kiss her at the end of the episode, and he played perfectly into it, leading to an explosive and wonderful kiss that was unfortunately witnessed by Mateo, turning it into something much more definitive and meaningful than it was meant to be. It didn’t take Rogelio long at all to get into therapy, and hopefully his selfless decision to be a stay-at-home dad won’t be too much to take. I’m glad to see Rosario Dawson joining the cast as Petra’s new attorney Jane, and it’s good that she’s around since Petra is going to need all the help she can get staying out of jail due to the overwhelming evidence against her and the fact that she’s lost the support of her number one ally Rafael and her lawyer is working with someone nefarious.
