What I’m Watching: Justified

Justified: Season 6, Episode 7 “The Hunt” (B+)

I’ve always been a fan of Winona, and I could never understand why Natalie Zea left this show to go back and star on one of the worst shows currently on television, “The Following,” instead. It’s good to see her again, mainly because she presented Raylan with the opportunity to actually be a father, which was quite a sight. Bringing her to the station with him was entertaining, and I loved watching him stand there not sure what to do with her while an unamused Rachel stared at him. Winona telling Raylan that she was ready to be with him, fully accepting of who he is and what she knows she can and can’t count on him for. I’d love to see more of her all the time, though it’s hard to know how things will turn out with the show being so close to its end. Ava’s surprise field trip with Boyd was a fearsome one as he essentially used her for target practice, but what’s much more notable is that she actually confessed fully to being an informant and he didn’t kill her on the spot. I think that’s partially because Raylan and Boyd have always had this incredible relationship dynamic where neither is clearly the hero or the villain and they’re actually much more suited as friends. As Tye goes on the run and causes as much collateral damage as he can along the way, Avery is being set up as the clear nemesis for the season, and someone is sure to get caught in the crossfire of the law’s war to take him down and everything involved the Crowders and the Givens.
