Emmy Catch-Up: Ozark

Every year, I watch the six submitted episodes of every series I don’t regularly watch that’s up for one of the Emmy series prizes. This year, I’m getting a jump start to check out the entire season of some of most high-profile shows I didn’t watch when they originally aired.

Ozark: Season 3, Episode 6 “Su Casa Es Mi Casa” (B+)

Things always seem to get worse when people aren’t happy with each other, bringing them together in a time of undeniable crisis. Marty and Wendy’s therapy sessions have never been especially productive despite their impressive attempts to veil their illegal behavior in unspecific terms, and I wasn’t expecting Sue to outright tell them that they were both bribing her. After that revelation, it brought out the worst in both of them and they said everything they had worked so hard not to, and I’m not sure that Sue appreciates the gravity of what she now knows and the danger she could be in as a result. Wendy telling Marty not to come home was an intense reaction, and of course that’s when he realized someone was following him who Helen confirmed was not one of their people. Helen telling Wendy that their friendship experiment wasn’t working after Erin, Charlotte, and Jonah got arrested failed to appreciate the role her own daughter has played. Darlene is gunning for the Byrde family, Wyatt is writing off his sister, and Ben’s off his meds, all very disconcerting developments that are contributing to the uncertainty of everything. Just as he did when Marty got grabbed, Ben acted swiftly when he realized what was happening, saving Ruth’s life as her fellow drop-goers were gunned down, presumably by Navarro’s enemy who is mourning the loss of his prized horse. Things are sure to get worse from here, and I’ll admit that I feel invested in what’s going to happen now.
