What I’m Watching: The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian: Season 2, Episode 6 “Chapter 14: The Tragedy” (B+)

Sometimes, major characters making epic reappearances just show up and introduce themselves by name without waiting for an opportunity to really show off their skills. That’s not to say that Boba Fett wasn’t pretty impressive with the way that he showed up to take charge and take out a staggering number of stormtroopers. I remember when actor Temuera Morrison played Jango Fett in “Attack of the Clones,” and now he’s playing his son, who sure knows how to use his armor. In this show’s revolving door of guest stars, we got to see Ming-Na Wen again as Fennec, who had sworn loyalty to Boba and as a result is now in the Mandalorian’s debt because they pledged to protect the child in exchange for the armor. Grogu got very into communing with the Jedi spirit of that place, which didn’t help the Mandalorian as he got ejected multiple times from that stream of intense concentration and then resulted in Grogu getting taken by the Dark Troopers when he passed out after all the exertion. Moff Gideon enjoyed watching him tire himself out using the Force to fell the stormtroopers charged with cornering him, and he’s not going to play nice anymore as he puts his nefarious plan in action. The most startling moment of the episode was surely the Mandalorian’s ship getting destroyed, though at least that means he’ll be in the company of strong allies for the foreseeable future since he doesn’t have a separate transportation option of his own.
