What I’m Watching: Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow: Season 7, Episode 4 “Speakeasy Does It” (B)

I’m not sure I’ve stopped to truly appreciate how much fun it must be to work on this show. The costumes are elaborate and ever-changing with full dance numbers and stage performances, and now the opening credits are different each week as the legends are trapped in 1925 and forced to play particular parts. Not having money is definitely presenting a problem, and Gary tipping 2021 rates on meals only accelerated that. They did come up with a great solution, but it had its own implications in the form of the mob taking away Eddie’s speakeasy from him. Zari shifting into party planner mode worked wonders, and it also helped her to find goodness in a time where discrimination and racism was incredibly rampant and societally accepted. This was a great opportunity for Gideon to sing and show how she could contribute while Spooner and Astra tried to save Maude from a miserable fate. The commitment that Zari and Astra have to ensuring that they don’t leave the timeline worse than they found it, even if that means changing something to save someone, should make for an interesting year, one that’s sure to be full of mistakes that need a good deal of fixing. I don’t think we need to spend any more time on Gary’s potential crush on Zari, especially now that the other Zari is back, but the return of the robot Hoover is an intriguing development, one that will hopefully lead the legends back to whoever is actually targeting them.
