Emmy Nominees: Best Writing for a Comedy Series

My predictions: 2/5, picking the wrong two “30 Rock” installments and a second episode of “Modern Family” over “The Office

The nominees:
“Glee” (Pilot)
“Modern Family” (Pilot)
“The Office” (Niagara)
“30 Rock” (Anna Howard Shaw Day)
“30 Rock” (Lee Marvin vs. Derek Jeter)

It’s really good to see that “30 Rock” has scaled back and only taken up two of the slots in this category this year, leaving room for the pilots of the season’s most popular new comedies. “Niagara” was a terrific installment of “The Office,” and it’s nice that the show, which earned a paltry four nominations, got some recognition this year. “Anna Howard Shaw Day,” the Valentine’s Day episode of “30 Rock,” was a fine half-hour, but not “Lee Marvin vs. Derek Jeter.” Most of Julianne Moore’s plotline fell flat, and honoring its writing, even if Tina Fey was involved, should hardly be encouraged.

Who should win? “Modern Family”
Who will win? “Modern Family”
