What I’m Watching: Longmire

Longmire: Season 2, Episode 6 “Tell It Slant” (B+)

Being sheriff isn’t an easy job. Walt has to contend with the town drunk providing him with riddles as tips for a murder, squaring off in a debate with one of his deputies, and balancing the needs of the different communities in Absaroka County. Aaron Two Rivers was an interesting guest character, since he was determined to create chaos and ensure that his sister’s murder was solved when he was in fact the one who did it. Walt was very clever in how he got Aaron to confess and was then able to arrest him. This isn’t the first time that Walt has seen a peculiar situation and known exactly what to do, after he talked down a soldier from her PTSD-induced nightmare a few episodes back and now played the role of Aaron while the real Aaron asked him questions as if he was the sheriff. The debate wasn’t looking good for Walt, who got hit with questions about his fear of technology and his late wife’s political views, but he managed to gain the upper hand again when Aaron walked in and Walt didn’t even look phased while Branch panicked and hit the ground. This show needs to have Walt as its sheriff, but I’m still intrigued to see how all this plays out. Branch is burning bridges left and right, trying hard to ignore demeaning insults from his father and figuring out a way to undercut his biggest supporter, Jacob Nighthorse, who seems to have his own best interests at heart.
