Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 18th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Mayim Bialik, Julie Bowen, Kathryn Joosten, Sofia Vergara, Merritt Wever, Kristen Wiig
The competition: Two nominees from last year are ineligible – Kathryn Joosten and Kristen Wiig – and I think it could be as simple as filling their slots with two returning “Arrested Development” stars, Jessica Walter and Portia de Rossi. That presumes that “Modern Family” women Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara are in, which is a logical assumption, and that two first-time nominees from last year, Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) and Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie) will both return. They’ll have to garner more votes than past nominees Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) and Betty White (Hot in Cleveland), as well as Emmy queen Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope). Also in the running are “Girls” stars Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet, and the never-nominated Kaley Cucuo (The Big Bang Theory).
The predicted nominees: Mayim Bialik, Julie Bowen, Portia de Rossi, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Walter, Merritt Wever
The predicted winner: Walter
