True Blood: Season 6, Episode 3 “You’re No Good” (B+)
This was admittedly a strange episode, even for this show, but at least there were no murderous blood-drinking-induced hallucinations or fatalities. Instead, we learned a few important things that are going to drive this season forward in a major way. After escaping the Governor’s custody, Eric wasted no time in kidnapping his daughter Willa, who appears to be both quite fearless and also quite into vampires. Tara taking her is sure to create more problems, and I think both Eric and the Governor have many sinister moves up their sleeves. It’s continually interesting to see the new character Bill is becoming, almost infinitely powerful – aside from the unblockable effects of the sun – and immune to many notable vampire weaknesses. His final interaction with Andy was eerily calm, and I worry for what comes next. Jessica is an extremely loyal deputy for Bill, donning the right costume and preparing to seduce the professor that Bill thinks can help to solve the world’s problems. Nora looking for Warlow creates an unexpected and welcome link between the Stackhouse storyline and the vampires we know and love, and I’m curious to see what comes next of that currently still mysterious storyline. Sam and Alcide seem to be off on their own track too, but I think that’s going to link up with everything else soon enough. It’s not difficult to feel bad for Steve Newlin, and the return of an especially vindictive and tyrannical Sarah Newlin is cause for much concern, considering she has an axe to grind and she is a determined bible-thumper with the resources and know-how to get what she needs to done.
