Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 18th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Bill Hader, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet
The competition: I was originally going to predict the exact same slate as last year, something that has happened before in this category. I’m torn, however, by the historical knowledge that the four “Modern Family” men are staples in this category, and the unlikelihood of previous nominees Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) and Will Arnett (Arrested Development) both being ignored. So, I’ve swapped out the two weaker “Modern Family” contenders, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ed O’Neill, for them, and assumed that previous winners Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell are safe bets. Additionally, last year’s nominees Max Greenfield (New Girl) and Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) seem secure. Tony Hale (Veep) would be a great addition, and he could also contend for “Arrested Development.” After that, past nominee Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) could return, and two never-nominated supporting stars, John Krasinski (The Office) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) could make the cut for the first time.
The predicted nominees: Will Arnett, Ty Burrell, Max Greenfield, Bill Hader, Eric Stonestreet, Jeffrey Tambor
The predicted winner: Arnett
