Emmy Winner Predictions: Best Writing for a Comedy Series

As I’ve done the past few years, I’m excited to present a detailed look at the Emmy race in each category with a spotlight on every episode submitted for consideration to voters. Click on episode titles to read reviews and offer your thoughts in the comments!

Episode 1 (Catastrophe)
Parents (Masters of None)
Founder Friendly (Silicon Valley)
The Uptick (Silicon Valley)
Morning After (Veep)
Mother (Veep)

Four of these nominees are also up for directing, not that it matters since that doesn’t usually dictate or have anything to do with the winner. I’d love to see either “Silicon Valley” hour triumph but I’m not sure voters will be able to pick. I think they’ll love “Mother,” however, which, along with “Parents,” do not represent the best that their shows have to offer. This could be the perfect place to reward Aziz Ansari for an affirming new comedy, and I certainly think that’s more likely to happen than this award going to the pilot episode of “Catastrophe,” a fun show that didn’t show up anywhere else but here.

What should win : Either “Silicon Valley” episode or “The Morning After.”
What will win: I’ll go with Parents.
