Emmy Nominees: Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

My predictions: 6/6
Missing: David Duchovny, Thomas Jane, Zachary Levi, Joel McHale, Charlie Sheen

This is the only category in which I scored 100%. Though there a few notable and unfortunate omissions, including nominations announcer Joel McHale, whose show “Community” received a grand total of zero nods, this is a fun and diverse list. This will be the last nomination for Tony Shalhoub, who has now earned eight nominations for “Monk,” one for every single year it aired. Alec Baldwin and Steve Carell are back for the fourth and fifth time, respectively, while Jim Parsons earns his second consecutive nod. Larry David has received his fourth nomination after being included in 2003, 2004, and 2006. New to the category we have Matthew Morrison, who is representing “Glee,” which earned acting nods in all four categories. Good riddance to past nominee Charlie Sheen, and let’s hope that the departure of “Monk” and likely ineligibility of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” make room for someone like David Duchovny, Thomas Jane, or Zachary Levi next year.

Who should win? Carell or Shalhoub
Who will win? Tough to say. Maybe a farewell bid for Shalhoub or inaugural one for Parsons, although the lack of love for his show indicates that maybe it’s not his time yet. I’d hate to see Baldwin usurp it for the third year in a row, but I’m hesitant to suggest it’s Carell’s turn. I’ll make a clearer guess when winner predictions time rolls around.

Thanks for your comments on Duchovny. Even though Californication was not great last season, Duchovny's performance in the season finale was truly incredible. Hope next year will be better for him and Californication.
