Human Target: Season 2, Episodes 7 & 8 “A Problem Like Maria” & “Communication Breakdown” (B)
Admittedly, these episodes are among the less impressive installments this show has produced. Yet there’s something about them that still makes them immensely watchable and entertaining. I’m a sucker for Chance doing anything crazy involving a plane, and therefore I was thrilled when he grabbed the helicopter by the leg and held on for dear life. And that was only after he purposely sabotaged the plane he was on in order to force a landing. What’s especially enjoyable, as always, is the interaction between each of the characters. Going against the common trend on this show, Maria, in her second appearance, isn’t as overly interesting guest star, yet the spirit she brings out in Chance is nice to see. Ilsa and Chance really get to go at each other in the second installment of this two-pack, and it’s fun to have Ames as a third wheel to the bickering between Winston and Guerrero. I enjoyed the resolution of that fight and Chance’s happenstance arrival at the very end of the conflict. Tony Hale was as amusing as he needed to be as the least impressive private investigator in history. What’s most resounding about this crew is their dedication to getting the job done, even if their visions of how to do that contradict, such as Ilsa’s more diplomatic approach as compared with Chance’s reckless and foolish plans. Having so many cast members now – not that five series regulars is really that many – has allowed them to be in more than one place at a time, and I’d be interested to see them all team up together for one common case, which hasn’t quite happened yet.
