12 Monkeys: Season 1, Episode 3 “Cassandra Complex” (B+)
As this show progresses, it only gets more enticing. Realizing that the man he needed to talk to died in Haiti a year earlier didn’t present such a challenge for Cole since he could just go back there to meet him, but that doesn’t mean it’s not complicated. Needing to avoid Cassandra was a hurdle, and it doesn’t seem that his slingshot splintering is working as consistently as it had before, which is deeply concerning. There is also considerable tumult in his present, as Ramse interacted with hostile forces outside the compound and Max, who seems to have played some important role in Cole’s life, now seems set on attacking Cole’s compound and undoing the already tempestuous operation he and his overlords have going there. What’s even more disconcerting is to see just how much Cassandra unraveled as a result of Cole’s initial visit, so obsessed with finding the epidemic that he had predicted that she was sure that a small outbreak in Haiti was a harbinger of doom. She seems to be doing much better now, but it’s still true that, despite the presence of Tom Noonan’s slender tall man in Haiti, which is where he first met Cole, it was Cole and not him who ultimately pulled the trigger and killed Henri to make sure that he couldn’t make it out of Haiti alive and risk ruining the timeline. Cole seems to know how to find the virus thanks to his conversation with a very much alive Henri, but he’s got plenty on his plate now that is sure to delay his progress.
