What I’m Watching: The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian: Season 2, Episode 2 “Chapter 10: The Passenger” (B-)

I can’t be the only one who finds this show repetitive and formulaic. Every episode is just another trip that barely goes okay with a different enemy and reason that the Mandalorian is in trouble. He did manage to get out of being knocked off his exploded speeder and robbed pretty well, responding in kind after giving away his jetpack for the life of the child by having it fly right back to him. Though he was initially grumbly about it, he didn’t seem to object all that much to the interplanetary errand that Peli gave him. This show’s inherently comic moments catch me off-guard sometimes, like Baby Yoda eating the eggs because he thought that they were food. It’s strange to think of the pilots in that classic orange gear as a potential threat since they’re the good guys (the Mandalorian isn’t, I suppose) and they seemed ready to let him go when he signed off with a friendly “May the force be with you.” As usual, he worked his way out of that one without too many issues, and his good deeds seem to have played out in his favor to balance out the clearly illegal things he’s done. This season appears to have a theme of creatures as the many villain, with those giant spiders representing a pretty intense threat that, as usual, he dealt with without getting too agitated, and thanks in part to help from those kind New Republic pilots who were still considering arresting him at that point.
