What I’m Watching: Manhunt: Deadly Games

Manhunt: Deadly Games: Season 2, Episode 9 “Don’t Tread on Me” (B+)

This is the sort of episode that is great to watch but makes me wonder how true to what really happened it is. Things didn’t look good when both the militia and the FBI had their ranks questioning the authority and mindset of their leaders, and everyone had their guns drawn. Brennan and Earl kept their cool while they were being treated like hostages by the militia, and Brennan knew just what to say to put himself on equal footing with Big John rather than seem like he thought he was smarter or more educated. As Earl predicted, knowing that Eric was responsible for the Olympics bombing was enough to turn Big John and then all of his people, and the last straw was his cruel murder of the dog once he knew that he was out of options. It definitely seemed like the militia members were ready to kill him, but thanks to diplomatic efforts by both Brennan and Big John, they’re now working together in Brennan’s final official act to find the man who planted bombs all around the FBI base camp while pretending that he only wanted a way out to escape to safety. Earl was bold to try to defuse the bomb on his own, and he lucked out with the timing and that he didn’t get blown up in the process. This show certainly knows how to feature good speeches, even if, as I mentioned above, they likely didn’t play out exactly that way in real life.
