Nominees are pictured and listed in alphabetical order by show. Beware of minor spoilers for listed episodes.
Robert B. Weide, Curb Your Enthusiasm (Palestinian Chicken)
Lena Dunham, Girls (She Did)
Louis C.K., Louie (Duckling)
Steven Levitan, Modern Family (Baby on Board)
Jason Winer, Modern Family (Virgin Territory)
Jake Kasdan, New Girl (Pilot)
For the sixth time in ten years, this category includes six nominees. The same statistic applies for a pilot winning this award. Back for the first time since 2006 is “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” with Robert B. Weide earning his fifth nomination for helming the show (he won in 2003). Series creators Lena Dunham and Louis C.K. are in this category for the first time, and both have a handful of other nominations this year. Steven Levitan and Jason Winer have each been nominated here once before for different “Modern Family” episodes. Jake Kasdan netted his first-ever Emmy nomination for “New Girl.”
What should win: “Girls” or “Curb Your Enthusiasm”
What will win: “Modern Family” may have won last year, but I think it will be “Curb Your Enthusiasm” this time around.
