Weeds: Season 8, Episode 10 “Threshold” (B+)
It doesn’t seem like any relationship is working out well on this show. The most lamentable case is that of Andy, who was almost instantly heartbroken after rushing into a spur-of-the-moment marriage at the end of last week’s episode with what turns out to be a Twitter-obsessed twenty-two-year-old without much maturity or wordliness. At some point, she may have been exactly Andy’s type, but it’s clear he’d much rather a more sophisticated – and Jewish – woman, someone like Yael. If Nancy can date a rabbi, there’s no reason why Andy couldn’t end up with Yael. Unfortunately, despite an intense discussion about shloshim, the Jewish mourning period, it looks like Nancy won’t be able to make it work with Rabbi Dave. It’s interesting to see that she told him that she dealt pot even though her employment at that period was actually far more legal, but, as expected, she’s headed down a different road, one less on the level, with a newly jobless Silas somewhat on the same page. Shane and Angela are about to find themselves in serious trouble, which is a shame after they caught a break solving the problem of the car thieves that jacked their confiscated ride. Doug more than has his hands full with his homeless hotel crew, but he’s managing surprisingly well. With only one episode left before the double-decker finale, I’m intrigued to see how everything’s going to turn out. Some fates are definitely taking shape, and some endings remain to be seen. No matter what, this show isn’t going to go quietly.
