Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series

The competition: Max Greenfield’s pompous young professional (New Girl), Ed Harris’ John McCain (Game Change), Danny Huston’s 1960s mobster (Magic City), Mandy Patinkin’s disgruntled CIA agent (Homeland), and Eric Stonestreet’s flamboyant dad (Modern Family).

For your information: The only returning nominee for the same role is Stonestreet, earning his third consecutive nomination. Greenfield and Huston are first-time nominees. Harris won one of his five previous Globe bids, and Patinkin has been nominated twice before for previous roles. This category has little consistency in its list of winners, alternating between drama series, comedy series, miniseries, and TV movies without much of a pattern. “Game Change” is nominated for Best Miniseries or TV Movie, “Homeland” for Best Drama Series, and “Modern Family” for Best Comedy Series.

Who should win? I haven’t seen Harris, but I would go with Greenfield or Patinkin.

Who will win? Either Harris or Patinkin. I’m betting on the latter.
