Top 20 New Shows of 2012: #4

My annual TV Awards, the AFT Television Awards, are given out during the summer. But this year, during both the spring and the fall, produced many impressive new television series. As 2012 closes out and 2013 begins, here’s a look back at the best new shows of the year.

#4: Girls
This show has stirred up plenty of controversy, both for its explicit depictions of sex in and out of relationships and its less than favorable showcase of young adult female life. The extraordinarily intriguing nature of the dynamics and conversations on this show, however, eclipse all of that, and it’s marvelous to see Lena Dunham’s brain at work.
