Top 20 New Shows of 2012: #1

My annual TV Awards, the AFT Television Awards, are given out during the summer. But this year, during both the spring and the fall, produced many impressive new television series. As 2012 closes out and 2013 begins, here’s a look back at the best new shows of the year.

#1: The Newsroom
Many have critiqued Aaron Sorkin’s latest ensemble piece about a dedicated and eclectic staff, but HBO’s news drama was one of the most compelling series on the air this past year. Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer lead a talented cast in this retrospective look back at real news and how it might have been handled. Season two can’t come soon enough.
