Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Actress in a TV Series – Comedy/Musical

The competition: Zooey Deschanel’s bubbly schoolteacher (New Girl), Lena Dunham’s spirited twentysomething (Girls), Tina Fey’s harried television writer (30 Rock), Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ sarcastic vice-president (Veep), and Amy Poehler’s government employee (Parks & Recreation).

For your information: Last year’s winner, Laura Dern, isn’t here because her show hasn’t aired its second season yet, and the winner from two years ago, Laura Linney, was snubbed. That means that the only past winner in this bunch is Fey, who won in 2007 and 2008. Both Deschanel and Poehler are back with their second consecutive nominations, while freshman series contender Dunham competes for the first time. Louis-Dreyfus may have a new show, but she’s competed at the Globes for her TV comedy work three times in the past. She won on her first shot, in 1994.

Who should win? All excellent choices. I’d vote for Poehler for the collective 2012 year.

Who will win? This usually goes to a freshman series star, and I think that Louis-Dreyfus will eclipse Dunham, but it could easily go the other way.
