Supergirl: Season 1, Episode 3 "Fight or Flight" (B+)
It's no surprise that Supergirl’s interview with Cat didn’t go as planned, and only part of that was due to the fact that she accidentally let it slip that she’s Superman’s cousin. I voiced my concerns about this show would have to live in Superman’s shadow just like his cousin does on this show, and having him appear but then not talk to her and later chat with her online was a decent way of incorporating him. I still find it hard to imagine that two people from the same planet who are related wouldn’t spend more time together, but that’s something that has to be accepted for this show to work. Reactron was a formidable enemy, and it’s a good thing that both Kara and Alex fought so hard to make sure that they could go after a human threat in addition to an alien one. Peter Facinelli was just the right actor to play Maxwell Lord, the billionaire inventor whose ego is larger than his net worth, and who gave all the credit to Superman and showed up only a few hours after being abducted by Reactron all dressed up at a fundraiser. Kara does go crazy every time James smiles at her, and while she’s going after him, she’s missing all of the attention she’s getting from Winn. It seems like James isn’t available, though, if Jenna Dewan Tatum’s Lucy Lane coming to town is any indication. Emphasizing some personal drama along with alien battles definitely enhances this show.
