What I’m Watching: iZombie

iZombie: Season 2, Episode 5 “Love and Basketball” (B+)

This episode took a while to let Liv eat any brains and start experiencing symptoms and visions, but that did afford the humorous opportunity for her to fake psychic thoughts when Clive came to collect on her uncanny ability. Her sudden interest in basketball presented itself in two very amusing ways: encouraging Major to sub in as the basketball coach and talking statistics with a flummoxed Clive, who referenced her previous attempt to put paper clips in his coffee mug. Reasoning out why she couldn’t be intimate with Major elicited a delightfully casual and calm response from him, assuring her that it could work, but the fact that they’re getting along again is really enough. Unfortunately, Gilda doesn’t seem too happy about the news of their reunion, and that coupled with his failure to comply with his zombie kill orders is bound to create some problems. Blaine stopping by to get the cure led to some scrappy fighting and some destroyed samples, but he’s the enemy that always seems to be there but doesn’t necessarily pose a direct and immediate threat. Suzuki’s wife stopping by Clive’s desk with a brain from the freezer is a fun twist, and he’s going to be asking a lot of questions that will have those around him lying to him through their teeth, trying to find a way to make sure that he doesn’t knock on too many doors and get himself killed. I think he’s too skeptical to accept zombies as a reality, but that won’t stop him from pushing.
