Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 3, Episode 6 “Among Us Hide…” (B)
Now that’s what I call a reveal. This episode pulled off an effective trick, framing a background character as the human form of a monster responsible for the deaths of many inhumans and putting Daisy and her crew firmly on his trail. May tracking down Werner with Bobbi’s help and getting to talk to him led to a shocking discovery that she couldn’t even believe, something the show didn’t prepare viewers for at all. The way in which Werner conveyed that Andrew was in fact Lash was extremely well done, and May’s reaction helped emphasize the shock value. My concern, naturally, is that this show will end up going full mole mode, making Andrew out to be the most suspicious and evil person ever, but I hope that this show will be able to make the most of it just like it did when Ward’s true allegiances were revealed. After an hour focused exclusively on one character, this show is back to multitasking in a big way, sending Bobbi back into the field, continuing Fitz’s efforts to help Simmons get back to that planet, and pursuing Coulson’s relationship with Rosalind. It was strange having them visit her house and seeing him pick out all the things that felt all too convenient and, of course, it was all a front to distract him. He is far more logical and less emotional than Daisy, but it seems all but guaranteed that she won’t listen to reason when he tries to defend what Rosalind is doing to keep the inhumans safe from themselves, which is sure to create a major rift within the already thin S.H.I.E.L.D. forces.
