The Flash: Season 2, Episode 4 “The Fury of Firestorm” (B+)
There are so many new characters this season that this show isn’t able to feature all of them each episode, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. In this hour we got to meet two new candidates to merge with Dr. Stein to help him get his firestorm powers under control and return to full health. It was obvious from the beginning that Henry Hewitt, a man of science more than ready to volunteer to have abilities, wasn’t going to be the right fit because of his monstrous ego. I didn’t foresee it going so bad, though the much more good-natured Jax helped to bring him down, excited at the possibility of helping people even if he wasn’t keen initially on the notion of having powers. Joe had a busy episode, dealing both with his daughter and a major discovery that he knew would cripple Barry if he found out. The news that Iris’ mother was sick explained her sudden appearance, and I was relatively surprised to see Iris cast her off anyway due to the fact that she had another family that she never told Joe about, something more unforgiveable than abandoning her own daughter. It’s too bad that Patty is pushing Barry away since they would make a great pair, but now that Barry has come face-to-face with another Harrison Wells, maybe Joe won’t make her keep her distance. I’m curious to see if this Wells is the real deal rather than a future impostor set on destroying the Flash, and I think that relationship is going to be an extremely interesting one.
