Heroes Reborn: Season 1, Episode 7 “June 13th, Part 1” (C-)
It’s amusing but not too surprising to me that this show would need to provide helpful visual reminders about who certain characters for those of the current generation who didn’t watch the original show, as a handful of players, most notably Angela Petrelli and Mohinder Suresh, were present for this episode set during the event that kicked off this series. It’s informative, certainly, to find out what happened on June 13th, but it also comes with a fair share of predictable inconsistencies that come with watching this show. The way time travel works on this show compared with its predecessor doesn’t seem to be quite as awful, but it’s still not rock solid. I still can’t understand why Claire was so crucial to the survival of the world in the original show, but that logic does suggest that her children might be important too. Though it became obvious a bit before it was confirmed, the twist that Tommy and Malina are in fact her children who were transported back fifteen years so that their powers could manifest and they could save the world did help tie this show together in a moderately intriguing way. What convinced me much less was how Harris was apparently able to duplicate bombs strapped to each of his clones’ chests and yet his powers weren’t neutralized by the preposterously powerful Phoebe, who managed to quell the abilities of hundreds of evos, including Hiro’s miles away. I guess the writers haven’t seen “Back to the Future” either, since seeing yourself tends to be rather problematic for your continued existence and that of your timeline. We’ll see how part two goes and if that makes any more sense.
