12 Monkeys: Season 2, Episode 2 “Primary” (B+)
It was really cool to see the timeline change around Jones in this episode, reconstructing itself and shifting only a little bit so that she still fit in to her new universe. The notion of immunity based on the shots they took was enough to satisfy me, and it’s interesting to see the minute changes that have come into effect that make this new timeline different based on the fact that the virus was released four years later and wasn’t as destructive. The doctor who died in the other timeline was entertaining, and I think the best part will be that Michael Hogan, best known as Tigh from “Battlestar Galactica,” is Jones’ husband who she doesn’t know. It’s fascinating to see how Cassie and Cole have switched places in terms of their worldviews, and that they’re raising the arguments the other used to make to try to get their points across. Ramse’s son being alive in this new timeline is great, though it’s not as good that Cassie is using him as a bargaining chip. Back in 2016, Jennifer’s obsession with a prime number room was intriguing, and it was awesome to see the revered James Cole escorted into room 607, which a man of the same name purchased back in 1944. I don’t quite get how he has it already if he hasn’t yet gone back in time, but I’ll let that go. I’m eager to see 1944 and what their lives there are like. I do hope we’ll see Jennifer again, since she’s such a terrific character, uttering this episode’s best line, “Why do I always have to do bad things to get your attention?”
