What I’m Watching: Blindspot

Blindspot: Season 1, Episode 19 “In the Comet of Us” (C+)

I’m not a big fan of dramatizing school shootings like this, and there was little about that plot in this episode that I felt was worthwhile or necessary. It’s still unfathomable to me how Taylor and her team could have known that the secret history of sexual abuse that the coach had would come to a head and result in a massive active shooter incident happening while the FBI team was physically present on campus. That’s the main flaw of this show, which is that all the tattoos are supposed to have hidden meanings and there’s a whole plan behind everything, but it’s hard to believe that they really could have known all of that let alone think that the best way to have the FBI deal with it was to cryptically inform them so they might just find out in time. Why they’re feeding information to the FBI rather than dealing with everything themselves is a better question. The device of starting the day over with each character didn’t provide any additional substance, and I still don’t get why Edgar was wearing a bowtie to work. Sofia’s reappearance is bad news all around, and Bethany’s decision to give her all her money is sure to come back to haunt her. Connecting this show to another with which it would never have a crossover, I’d love to have Patterson meet Doug from “House of Lies” and play some Dungeons and Dragons with him given his obsession with the game this season.
