What I’m Watching: The Detour

The Detour: Season 2, Episode 10 “The Trip” (B+)

I laughed a lot harder during this episode than I have watching a TV show in a while. After the dramatic ending of the last episode with JR taking the kids after Nate and Robin discussed that she would probably have to go to jail. One of the things that make this show so great is that Robin is rarely fazed by things that are pretty crazy and Nate always overreacts since no one else in this show’s universe seems to notice that something isn’t normal. It’s completely true that Robin did a few things in this episode that aren’t acceptable by any standards, like eating some of the chocolate that was in the toilet where her father hid the plane tickets and not minding that she had fallen asleep at the wheel for a full three miles. Nate getting her caramel corn pee all over himself was really his own fault, and he made a number of legitimate points about them having run out of things to say since she just wasn’t interested in talking about anything while he was reflecting on the many absurd events that we’ve already seen happen over the past two seasons. The craziest thing is to think that they made it to Florida in just one drive because Robin refused to stop even for a second, though that’s not going to help them all that much since the newly-named Pee-Paw is taking his grandkids to Cuba and not to Florida. I’m very pleased that this show has been renewed for a third season and look forward to much more of it!
