The Flash: Season 3, Episode 23 “Finish Line” (B+)
So, there was a twist, and Iris isn’t dead. HR made the ultimate sacrifice after he accidentally gave Savitar her location, and it’s a grand way for one of the more peculiar and entertaining characters on this show to go out. The most important thing is that Iris is no longer in danger since Savitar had to kill her in that moment, and because he didn’t, he’s not trying to anymore. Barry trying to appeal to Savitar’s memories as him and Iris being open to that appeared to be working, but then all the evil in him just took hold again. Gypsy and Jay Garrick showed up, along with Wells from Earth-Two, as the other-worldly support that our heroes needed, and after Barry spared Savitar, Iris was there to make sure that he wouldn’t pose any further threat. And Caitlin even came back, though she needs to go on some personal journey to find a happy medium between being Killer Frost and the good-hearted doctor she used to be. After all this, that damn speed force, which I still don’t quite understand, came back to call for a speedster to be trapped within it so that it can be fulfilled or whatever. I do think that the way in which it was presented showcased Barry as a triumphant hero, eagerly fulfilling his destiny to save the world. I don’t know what will get him back, but I’m excited to see what comes next for this show which won’t be ruled by doom and gloom but rather by a world without a Flash which will be eager to retrieve its hero once again.
