Silicon Valley: Season 4, Episode 2 “Terms of Service” (B+)
Well, Dinesh’s tenure as CEO didn’t last long at all. Gilfoyle was there to watch with amusement the whole way, and he went from putting way too much product in his hair for his TV interviews during which he ridiculed Richard’s leadership to cowering in a bathtub after throwing up all over himself. I like that there are two members of the team, Jared and Big Head, who don’t ascribe to the same mentality that Gilfoyle, Dinesh, and especially Erlich do. Jared needs to play by the rules, which is why he wouldn’t grant Richard access but then listened to what he said about the vulnerability that PiperChat had when pressed by the friend that he was trying to chat about sports and women with rather than talking about work. Big Head, on the other hand, doesn’t get anything but likes his friends, and therefore he was more than willing to share his login with Richard. As usual, this show’s way of working out problems was brilliant. Dinesh being on the hook for $21 billion and counting because of his failure to read over the terms of service could have been a huge problem, especially because he was legally bound to tell Gavin about it if he was selling him the company, but then a vengeful Gavin just took it from there, negating any need for that. And the fact that he did it just so that he could see who Jack was talking to because of a story made up by his guru to compete with Hoover the security guard for friendship with Gavin only made it more ridiculous and hilarious. I also enjoyed the return of Jian Yang and his continued manipulation of Erlich.
