Orange is the New Black: Season 5, Episode 8 “Tied to the Tracks” (B+)
Soso wanted Susan Sarandon, Taystee was hoping for Spike Lee, and they got someone even better: Fig. It’s hard to remember exactly what became of her when Caputo got her booted from the job, but having her back is a real treat. I’d be curious to see what he would do if he found out that she held his fate in her hands and whether she’d be sympathetic to helping him given how he pushed her out of Litchfield. Taystee did a solid job backing up her case, explaining that she knows that the money is in the budget, and it was only when Fig found out that a guard had been shot that things started to fall apart. On the outside, Judy seemed very spiteful, responding angrily to Aleida describing her luxurious accommodations and outing Daya as the shooter. After expressing her inner artist, Daya did a noble thing and called Pornstache’s mother to tell her about the baby before she turned herself in for the greater good, making Piper’s intellectual train victims scenario unnecessary to ponder. Lorna was rightly furious at Nicky for treating her as if she was crazy, and Red and Flores showed up at just the right time to provide a distraction. I don’t like the fact that yet another “good guy,” Pennsatucky this time, is now trapped in a porter potty. Seeing Crazy Eyes tied to the bed was upsetting, and I think all of her friends will be too preoccupied with their negotiations to bother to check on her and realize she’s in bad shape.
