Emmy Catch-Up: What We Do in the Shadows (Season Finale)

Every year, I watch the six submitted episodes of every series I don’t regularly watch that’s up for one of the Emmy series prizes. This year, I’m watching the entire season of every series nominated in the top category.

What We Do in the Shadows: Season 2, Episode 10 “Nouveau Théâtre Des Vampires” (C+)

What’s hardest to believe on this show is that these vampires are all so dumb since they’ve been able to survive for centuries without any real issue, aside from the occasional murder of a familiar or some other human who happened to discover their true identities. Guillermo could tell the moment that he returned to the house and saw the invitation that it was obviously a trick, but all four of the vampires, including the slightly more socially-apt Colin, had absolutely no clue and thought it was a true honor. Not only did all four of them not know what was really happening, they also didn’t even know that any of the vampires had been killed (aside from that one time that Nandor caught Guillermo in the act). I wasn’t sure why it was that Guillermo suddenly left, especially after we had a whole plotline about that earlier in the season, but he showed up just in time to be able to take out all of the vampires who were about to kill our four protagonists. That does change things for next season, which I guess I’ll plan to watch because I anticipate it will be nominated for more awards in the future. I wouldn’t say that watching these ten episodes was a complete waste of time, but I still wouldn’t have picked this show to contend for Best Comedy Series over at least one or two dozen other shows. I can’t imagine it will win, though I think many people like it much more than I do.
