Doom Patrol: Season 4, Episode 2 “Butt Patrol” (B+)
There are so many things I love about this show, but one of the best ones is when characters get to interact and build individual relationships with each other. Rita getting voted out of leadership in favor of her mortal enemy Rouge felt particularly cruel, and she did not take the news well. Larry was busy with his own negative spirit drama and then was able to be completely honest with Rita about her role in all of this, which might count for something even if, in the moment, it was quite hurtful. Vic inviting Jane along because she thought everyone had forgotten about her led to an informative meeting with the Butt Hunter, and my two favorite comments from that exchange were her claiming “laundry day” to excuse her Jazz Crabs shirt and questioning whether he had in fact never heard of zombies. Jane watching the interview Kay did with Vic while she was in the Underground is going to give her plenty to process and likely send her spiraling. Rouge was able to motivate Cliff into destructive action when he didn’t want to hurt Darren and was busy listening to the zombie speak he was still spouting, but he did get to feel the blood on his hand, which was not what he wanted. I appreciated the introduction of Dr. Margaret Yu, who has an entertaining sense of humor and may now be singularly responsible for the buttpocalypse because she’s taken one of the butts home and is keeping him as a well-treated pet.
