Ghosts: Season 2, Episode 8 “The Liquor License” (B+)
I did not expect this all to go so well since the concept of operating a secret speakeasy whiskey tasting during a liquor license inspection seems like the riskiest possible idea. Not to mention opening up a hole in the wall to find the old alcohol that would certainly have posed a safety concern given other things that could be living there. Alberta was so excited by the idea of all this, while Pete was the typical voice of reason who suggested that they should be much more careful than they were being. I always enjoy a guest appearance from Nelson Franklin, and Elliott was mostly supportive of what they were doing before pointing out the mystifying fact that, as part of all this, they were giving away alcohol that was worth thousands of dollars. The discovery of the letter that suggested new suspects in Alberta’s murder was intriguing, and I’m glad that this show reminds itself every once in a while that solving those decades- and centuries-old mysteries is part of its plot. Trevor and Isaac starting a frat for ghosts led to a quick realization of divisions between them, and I appreciated the flashbacks to Isaac thinking he was being invited to join the freemasons by the misleading language Ben Franklin kept using when he just wanted him to run errands for him. Trevor seeking Isaac out and inviting him to join the party when everyone else abandoned him was a nice display of friendship, an unexpected and endearing interaction between two ghosts who are quite different.
