Second Run TV: Smallville

Smallville: Season 6, Episode 5 "Reunion" (D-)

I am surprised to see that this season of "Smallville" is just a bit more on track than the past few. Episode four of this season did not air, but I found it online and thought it was actually a fairly standard and good episode of television (the episode was "Arrow" which I would award a B-). I despise Lois Lane with a passion but the new character of Oliver Queen is intriguing and well portayed by Justin Hartley. This episode, "Reunion", tells a Lex flashback (which I have never found to be terribly good, remembering that whole crying at his birthday party thing a few years back). The villain of the episode is also another standard bizarre Kryptonite-enhanced "freak of the week" whose existence demands more than a fair amount of suspension of disbelief. I have higher hopes for the rest of this season, but this episode treads dangerous waters towards slipping back to what seasons three through five of "Smallville" were like.
