What I’m Watching: Covert Affairs

Covert Affairs: Season 2, Episode 12 “Uberlin” (B+)

This episode gave us a fun and rare opportunity to see Peter Gallagher’s Arthur in action, proving that he still has what it takes and allowing Annie to show off some of her skills as her well. Elsa’s request for a meeting with Arthur came as somewhat of a surprise, and Annie ended up caught in an uncomfortable situation with Arthur and Joan giving her different marching orders. Finding out that Arthur was in love with Elsa was hardly a shock, but he was able to be professional, and, in the end, it was revealed that she never betrayed him years earlier. Annie encouraging Arthur to save Elsa if he had any doubt about her guilt was sweet, and it’s nice that Arthur managed to get home in time to celebrate his anniversary with Joan. Arthur posing in a leather jacket as a prospective client of Isaak’s was cool, but what was truly impressive was Arthur and Annie’s collaborative driving. Back at home, Danielle seems decently okay with Annie’s job choice, but having Chloe’s artwork in her safe house was an inconvenient obstacle that seemed to create more tension that pancakes could only soothe so much. Jai is outright spiteful in his new position, and especially since he said yes to transferring money to Arthur’s operation, he’s sure to cause problems for Joan in the future. Auggie bonding with his old buddy Billy’s sister was a nice chance for him to relax a bit and recall the good old times, as well as to bond with someone intelligent with similar interests to his own.
