The Good Wife: Season 3, Episode 7 “Executive Order 13224” (B+)
This show just had its first truly jaw-dropping moment of the season, which came when Alicia’s horribly annoying ringtone for Grace went off while Diane was on the phone with Will and the two were in bed together. Both Diane and Kalinda barely displayed any emotion on their faces, but they were definitely shocked. Diane handled it rather passive-aggressively, asking Will if he thought sexual harassment training was a good idea for the office, leading into the awkward ending in which Will and Alicia were forced to watch the tacky video. Peter going after Will is an unprecedented move, and taking a backseat isn’t going to help matters. It’s rare that we get to see such fierce interactions between the men on this show, and Will telling Peter that only one of them has seen the inside of a prison cell was definitely a well-delivered remark. Unsurprisingly, Dana is becoming a fixture of the show rather than departing, and as Peter says, “pissed is good,” which is going to enable her to be just as cutthroat as Cary. I enjoyed the two prominent guest stars involved in the case, but I also knew I recognized the actor that played Danny, Waleed Zuaiter, who was on “Homeland” last week as Hamid. Bob Balaban was a great as dry cupcake-lover Gordon Higgs, and Carrie Preston’s return as Elsbeth Tascioni was absolutely wonderful. I was impressed with the cleverness of their redaction searches, identifying the doctor’s long name and the word “curt” taken out automatically by the program. It was a treat to see Titus Welliver back as the humorless Childs again too.
