Desperate Housewives: Season 8, Episode 6 “Witch’s Lament” (C+)
An interesting note for those paying attention – this episode was directed by none other than Gaby’s stepfather portrayer Tony Plana, who appeared for just a few seconds but whose presence was enough to compel Carlos to give the kid the whole basket of candy and go back to drinking. Aside from that one occurrence, Carlos’ drinking problem seems to have been entirely swept under the rug, while Bree acknowledges that the writers forgot all about her alcoholism, leading her to handle this situation with staunch togetherness. Trying to plant endangered frogs in the area is extremely silly, and it’s hardly surprising that it didn’t go as planned. Susan’s selection as Andre’s intern makes sense only since he just wanted her to watch his son, and it’s nice that she’s actually able to prove herself right in trying to give him a true Halloween experience while Andre did all he can to be the world’s worst father. Renee taking sex-enhancing drugs seems a bit uncharacteristic, though I suppose she would want to prepare herself as much as possible. Ben seems to have truly developed feelings for her, so it’s nice to see her actually happy. The same can’t be said for Lynette, whose costume fiasco led to a true bonding moment between her and Jane, interrupted rather harshly by Lynette’s request for her to stop trying to take her husband away. I can’t imagine that Jane will heed that request, and Lynette will be kept busy enough searching for the body that has been mysteriously exhumed. My guess is that Chuck had something to do with it.
