What I’m Watching: Parenthood

Parenthood: Season 3, Episode 7 “Forced Family Fun” (B+)

Now that Kristina is no longer pregnant, it’s good to see her go back to trying to get things done and make an impact on her family. After her failed special breakfast celebrating Nora’s turning five and a half, her efforts to plan a family fun night worked just about as poorly. She had the best scene, however, when she kicked her entire family, minus Nora, out of the car, and went mini-golfing all by herself, leaving Adam, Haddie, and Max twiddling their thumbs at home not sure how to make the peace with her upon her return. It was interesting to see Zeek send Adam to talk some sense into Sarah since that’s a dynamic we haven’t seen all that much of this season, and I do hope that Seth doesn’t go and break Sarah’s heart by screwing up his rehab. I’m glad Mark is finally standing up for himself, telling Sarah that she never needs to make up a story for him but also that she can’t keep calling on him last minute. She really is a bad girlfriend, but an amazing ex-wife. Speaking of former relationships, it’s sad to see that Jasmine is truly ready to have that conversation with Crosby about Joe, something which clearly breaks Crosby’s heart since he doesn’t want to be replaced as Crosby’s father figure. Crosby asking an applicant what she thinks about the situation was very entertaining, and I do hope that this doesn’t lead to the deterioration of his relationship with his son. Julia’s concern over Zoe eating sushi did lead to some very domineering confrontations, but fortunately, all seems well as she’s ultimately grateful to have someone looking out for her.
