What I’m Watching: iZombie

iZombie: Season 2, Episode 4 “Even Cowgirls Get the Black and Blues” (B+)

This episode featured plenty of developments, and the most significant thing about it was that Liv’s brain-inspired traits were, for the first time in a while, mostly not funny. She still uttered a handful of catchphrases that didn’t quite sound like her, but ultimately it was her music performance, quite a good one at that, which inspired her to go see Major and confess the fact that they need to be able to move on and be people again even if things won’t ever be the way that they were. Going to buy drugs from someone he had previously tried to help who was so amused by the fact that he was the now the buyer was the thing that made him snap, inspiring him to come ask Liv for help, resulting in an episode-ending passionate kiss which puts Liv in a light we haven’t seen since the beginning of the show, certainly since her zombie boyfriend was killed by Blaine. Speaking of Blaine, helping Peyton with her case and then putting the moves on her is a devious move, and Liv isn’t nearly paranoid enough given the many forces united against her from all fronts. Peyton moving in with Ravi and Major is an interesting development, though I’m much more impressed by the reaction that Ravi’s new girlfriend had, which he of course immediately thought had to be a trap. Major talking to Liv is going to change things now, and let’s hope that Clive and his new cop friend don’t come too close to pinning all these zombie murders on Major in the meantime.
