What I’m Watching: Veep

Veep: Season 6, Episode 2 “Library” (B+)

So much for the presidential campaign – Selina has more than enough problems as it is. Wanting to build a presidential library at Yale only to be told that they didn’t want her wasn’t a great start, and not remembering Amy Brenneman’s Regina Pell from her Smith days failed to cement that deal either. The much bigger issue than her policies, however, was the trust that she placed in Andrew, who, after all of his sketchy favors, with just a few speaker-phone-uttered text messages, revealed just how terrible a person he is. Not only that, it managed to ruin everything since Helen Wright being fired turned all of the feminists against her. Gary going nuts on Andrew was funny and appropriately brief. Catherine and Marjorie wanting to have a baby is a twist that’s sure to complicate matters and inspire Selina to say a whole bunch of hurtful things. Buddy’s DUI rant was a bit of a surprise, and Amy had quite the reaction to it. Dan’s work situation is getting very bad, but it doesn’t appear that he’s going anywhere. He did manage to completely ruin the one good date that Jonah was having just to get revenge on him, and he took her home to boot. Jonah has no hope of finding anyone after this given the way that he leads, telling them that they can get an appetizer or a dessert but not both. She barely had a role, but I could recognize June Diane Raphael’s voice anywhere, and I’d love to see the “Grace and Frankie” actress return for a bigger part.
