Resident Alien: Season 1, Episode 2 “Homesick” (B+)
This was a fun second outing, and I see how this show can be sustainable going forward even if Harry tries hard to kill Max each episode and then repeats his very sinister plan to end all life on Earth right before the credits roll. My favorite moment was probably when Harry called Max pretending to be a classmate when he saw the wanted posters and then got tripped up by the question of how much a stamp cost, which Max apparently knew was wrong since he was convinced they cost thirty dollars. Mike’s response to Max reporting Harry – that he should watch “Oz” and then tell him if he wants to go to prison – was pretty hilarious, and I enjoyed seeing the less buttoned-up but still prickly version of him at bowling as well as him arguing with a very angry Asta. Harry doesn’t pick up on many social cues, hence why he was impressed to have found someone so willing to talk about murdering people since he didn’t get that she wasn’t taking him seriously. I like that he has this budding romance that he’s doing everything possible to mess up, and that the patient who he got caught photographing during a pelvic exam might also be interested in him, something he’ll surely misread. Offering to play cards with Asta to comfort her was a big step, though he’s not exactly making much progress with that emptiness in his stomach that’s either metaphorical or literal. That hiker is going to make news in a way Harry won’t like, and I’m eager to see how he responds to that.
