Snowpiercer: Season 2, Episode 3 “A Great Odyssey” (B-)
It seems like a bit of a strange time to bring Josie back and to present a stark reminder of how most on the train used to perceive Melanie. Andre has certainly shifted his perspective, and it also doesn’t really matter since she’s no longer on board the train, dropped off on her own solo mission that obviously won’t be a complete failure so that she can try to help bring the world back to life. It feels awfully lucky every time the train rips around a turn and nearly derails but somehow manages to get through unscathed, and only those in the first car need to be shown holding on since no one else is likely to feel the bumps that come with nearly falling off the side of a mountain. Tess’ detective work has clearly shown that Wilford’s influence has permeated their train and that he’s going to continue to try to work to subvert them without much difficulty. It’s good that Andre is determined to pursue multiple options to ensure that he won’t be successful, and though Wilford was completely aware of what happened, it’s a good thing that Alex opted to open up and invite her mother in to see some of her life. I’d like to see the Wilford-Ben dynamic explored in depth, and I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to flashbacks to what happened when the train was about to leave that might tell us what the rapport between Wilford and Melanie used to be before she left him behind and he pursued her with a vengeance.
