What I’m Watching: Superman and Lois

Superman and Lois: Season 2, Episode 14 “Worlds War Bizarre” (B+)

This episode certainly felt like the penultimate installment of the season, setting up a frightening reality for the finale where the two worlds have somehow combined, presenting a very bleak landscape on which to wage a war that the characters we’ve come to know aren’t well-equipped to win. Ally going on the airwaves to tell everyone that they’re going to merge both earths into one was met with confusion from most, like Sarah, and it’s not reassuring to see how those with a distrust in public officials and the news media react when an extinction event is coming and all they want to do is quibble about politics and people being honest. A powerless Superman showing up to the town meeting to vouch for Lana was helpful, and now Sarah is well aware of Jordan’s powers thanks to those flashing eyes when he sprang into action to combat the other Lana showing up to take him out. Fortunately, Jordan did manage to use his training and put up a good fight, and Natalie also contributed quite well in the absence of her father, whose mission may not have been successful so far but will surely come in very handy. I would imagine that this particular threat will be dealt with and finished in the finale, but it’s going to be quite an uphill battle, and I do think that there will be some lingering effects even if Ally is defeated and things return somewhat to normal for the residents of the main Smallville.
