Emmy Predictions: Best Writing for a Drama Series

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 12th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: What I Know (The Boys), War (The Crown), Home (The Handmaid’s Tale), Sundown (Lovecraft Country), Chapter 13: The Jedi (The Mandalorian), Chapter 16: The Rescue (The Mandalorian), Series Finale (Pose)

The top contenders:
Plan and Execution (Better Call Saul)
Rock and Hard Place (Better Call Saul)
Chapter 6: From The Desert Comes A Stranger (The Book of Boba Fett)
Capital R Rake (Bridgerton)
Stand Still Like the Hummingbird (Euphoria)
Face the Music (The Gilded Age)
Glorious Purpose (Loki)
A Hard Way to Go (Ozark)
Ellie (Ozark)
The We We Are (Severance)
One Lucky Day (Squid Game)
Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (Stranger Things)
All the Bells Say (Succession)
Miguel (This Is Us)
Us (This Is Us)
The Swan (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty)
F Sharp (Yellowjackets)
Pilot (Yellowjackets)

The rundown: None of the nominated shows from last year are in contention, but some other returning series are. Succession is sure to score for its one chosen episode, Ozark will probably go two for two, and though many episodes were submitted, I think two among the crop from Better Call Saul will be cited. After that, Squid Game and Severance are both very likely, and Yellowjackets could also crack the list.

The predicted nominees: Plan and Execution (Better Call Saul), Rock and Hard Place (Better Call Saul), Ellie (Ozark), A Hard Way to Go (Ozark), The We We Are (Severance), One Lucky Day (Squid Game), All the Bells Say (Succession)

The predicted winner: I think Succession wins this.
