Emmy Nominees: Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

My predictions: 5/6

This category was announced first so I cheered for Elle Fanning (The Great), and I had hoped this was a sign that her show would do very well, which unfortunately it didn’t. But she’s here over my predicted sixth nominee, Tracee Ellis Ross, whose show was almost entirely ignored. While Selena Gomez was probably a close seventh, she lost out to a different newcomer, Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), whose show I’ll now need to start watching after enjoying the pilot. Last year’s winner Jean Smart (Hacks) is back, as is past winner Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and a nominee for the final season of her show, Issa Rae (Insecure). I’m not quite sure what the backlash was against the second season of her show, but I’m glad that Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) didn’t get snubbed.

Who should win? Fanning! But Smart and the rest are superb too.
Who will win? I suspect that Smart repeats.
