The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 12th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Hugh Grant, Ewan McGregor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom, Jr., Paul Bettany
The competition: There are a lot of men in contention for this prize. At the head of the pack are Colin Firth (The Staircase), Andrew Garfield (Under the Banner of Heaven), Michael Keaton (Dopesick), Oscar Isaac (Scenes from a Marriage), and, in a rare noteworthy performance from a TV movie, Ben Foster (The Survivor). Other strong possibilities include Sean Penn (Gaslit), Jared Leto (WeCrashed), Sebastian Stan (Pam and Tommy), Samuel L. Jackson (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey), Joshua Jackson (Dr. Death), and Miles Teller (The Offer). I would love to see enthusiasm for Paul Rudd (The Shrink Next Door), Will Ferrell (The Shrink Next Door), and Jon Bernthal (We Own This City), but I’m not sure it’s there. Past nominations for Paul Bettany (A Very British Scandal) for a different role last year and Liev Schreieber (Ray Donovan: The Movie) for the same one previously suggest they might return too.
The predicted nominees: Firth, Foster, Garfield, Isaac, Keaton, Penn
The predicted winner: I think Foster might win here, but it could also be Keaton or Firth.
Next up: Best Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
